with love to spare
This newsletter features teenage girl music, sweater envy, and a Slurpee truck.
Hello! You’ve reached kelsey’s corner, the only newsletter on the internet written and lovingly curated by me, Kelsey. This edition was written on a beautifully rainy day.
Am I just another girl whose heart you’ve stolen?
You didn’t do much but the ball is rollingYeah, it's a blessing and it's a curse
So keep on pretending pretty girlAll the time
I'm grateful all the timeFried morels and fine hotels and all that in the middle
And at last, all the pictures have been burned
And all the past is just a lesson that we've learned
I first saw Monsters by Claire Dederer at a bookstore in London and immediately added it to my Libby requests. It’s an exploration on what we do with the art created by bad people; what it says about us if we consume it and who we help if we don’t. I really enjoyed it. It’s the kind of book that took me through a lot of feelings (I was on board! I hated it! I was confused! I was back on board!) and I’d recommend it if you like thinking too much about the things you consume.
celeb corner | Two heartthrobs: Chris Evans and Conner O’Malley.
Theater Camp is on Hulu now so you have no excuse not to watch it. One of my few five-star watches of the year with some incredible physical comedy.
Here’s the thing about things: I feel good when I share something I like and good when I don’t (because inflation! Capitalism! I don’t know how influencers do this 24/7!) so I’m going to shake this up a bit. I’ll give you a favorites corner for stuff I’ve already bought and a wishlist corner for stuff I may or may not buy/am generally noodling on. Cool? Cool.
favorites corner | Very attached to my new Kindle case. It took a little while to ship, but once it did I think it arrived overnight.
wishlist corner | I’ve been on a sweater journey lately; this one from Sezane and this one from KJP have both caught my eye, but I’ve never ordered from either brand so I’m wary about sizing. This isn’t a sweater but it’s similar enough and I feel like I’m going to buy it for my 28th Chicago winter.
Broadway’s Kristin Chenoweth got married (great) and had a Slurpee truck at her reception, which is the single coolest thing I’ve ever heard of. And I’ve watched a lot of episodes of Four Weddings1.
Very good slime content here. Just some incredibly soothing scoops of goop.
past corner | I went to Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day at the Sox game and a) got a cool-as-hell jersey and b) ran into five people I knew or was related to. Incredible Southside behavior. Braden and I watched Ocean’s Eleven at Alamo Drafthouse and I clapped my hands like a little seal every 10 minutes. I saw my first Grand Slam at Wrigley from the 100s, which was magical even if they ended up losing. And finally, the aforementioned Braden and I went to a Who? Weekly live show which was a hoot and a half. I’d highly recommend it if you love celeb gossip (or your brain is also broken from being online.)
future corner | Coming up we have a rug tufting class, my second annual Race to Wrigley2, and my most beloved Chicago street fair: Apple Fest. Also, I’m getting a colonoscopy. Maybe those results will get their own section next time we see each other.
I’ll be back on October 6 (hopefully!!!3) with answers to my medical mystery and a pile of content to share with you. In the meantime, why don’t you check out the most-clicked link from our last newsletter - this very funny Oppenheimer tweet. And, if you want to follow me around the internet you can find a link to my other socials here.
If you liked this newsletter, please share it with a friend or an enemy using the button below. If you double-liked this newsletter and want to buy me a Slurpee for my troubles here’s my virtual tip jar. Until then, please be nice to people. I’ll be thinking of you.
Your friend,
Kelsey
This joke made me see if Four Weddings is on Max and it is! All 10 seasons. This is my life now.
It’s called the Race to Wrigley but it’s more of a power-walkin’ 5K. It takes you in a square around Lakeview and then you get to walk the field, which is very fun.
Hopefully I’ll have answers. Not hopefully I’ll come back. I always come back here, this newsletter is like my own personal tiny home.
