Hello and welcome to kelsey’s corner, the only newsletter on the internet written and lovingly curated by me, Kelsey. This week is all about heartbreak weather, grub street diets, and black widow, baby.
Things For Your Ears
Are you really gonna talk about timing in times like these?
And let all your damage, damage me
And carry your baggage up my street
And make me your future historyIt can be so lonely in this city
But it feels different when you're with me
Things For Your Eyes
I love a Grub Street Diet that has an air of chaos, and Ronan Farrow 100% delivers.
A few favorites from last week’s Links I Would Gchat You If We Were Friends: a New Yorker article about the pitfalls of #MainCharacterEnergy and this incredible write-up on podcasts, parasocial relationships, and (p)monetizing self care.
In 324 days (really, really soon!) me and my beloved best friends will spend seven days being full-on Disney adults. I’m talking ears, I’m talking matching shirts, I’m talking color-coded itineraries that also take into account that we’re #chill and #relaxed and #OnVacation. This is all a preamble to tell you I’m obsessed with tried-and-true Disney Adults (my YouTube search history reflects this) and I will gobble up any content I can about them.
And finally, for a small group of people: here’s an oral history of the definitive production of Legally Blonde.
Things For Your Ears and Eyes
If you’re a loyal reader of this newsletter you’ll know I find myself down YouTube rabbit holes pretty frequently, which led me to spend this weekend watching MTV’s Fat Camp and Return to Fat Camp. We don’t have the time to unpack that Fat Camp(s) are insane and bad, but these videos are fascinating cultural artifacts.
I liked Black Widow! I thought it was a good movie! However, like everyone else, I’m eternally bummed out it didn’t happen earlier in the MCU timeline.
Things
These are definitely more personal/Kelsey-specific than usual so a) I’m sorry and b) it’s my newsletter!!!
I’ve succumbed to being an Apple Watch person. Is it a necessary piece of tech? Absolutely not. Has it made me move more in the past week than I have in the past month? Absolutely. Closing those activity rings is one hell of a drug.
Also, gently related to the watch…I started boxing again! I’ve gone twice since we last spoke and my ribs hurt so bad. I have to remind myself I don’t have to be great at it right away since I’ve been gone for so long but dang, it feels good to punch stuff again.
The Done app. My new baby. It’s a really easy habit tracking app (for breaking or building habits) that’s so aesthetically pleasing it makes my head spin.
Things to Make You Smile
I’ll be back on July 30, typing this up from the little pile of sweat I live in.
If you liked this newsletter, please share it with a friend or an enemy using the button below. If you double-liked this newsletter and want to fund my Slurpee habit you can do so here.
