Hello and welcome to kelsey’s corner, the only newsletter on the internet written and lovingly curated by me, Kelsey. This week is all about flat bodies, being greatful, and corn puddin’.
Things For Your Ears
This Tik Tok reminded me that even if I didn’t love INSIDE (we don’t have time to dig into my feelings about Bo Burnham) this song is lovely and musical theatre-esque.
I regret to inform you I’ve found Aaron Carter’s discography on Spotify and I’m making this my new, personal theme song.
Things For Your Eyes
I’ve been digging into a lot of social media anthropology content lately so I figured I’d lump them together. Cultish by Amanda Montell is a phenomenal and fascinating look at the linguistics of cults, shown through the lens of everything from Jonestown to SoulCycle. “YouTube Voice” has probably taken over your feed - here’s why it’s so effective. And finally, for cool girls the “photo dump” is the new way to seem effortless and trendy.
Teens are selling their parent’s clothes on Depop…and it’s bringing in bank. I can only hope one day my Patagonia three-quarter zip will be vintage and beloved.
Regretfully, I have fully bought into the conspiracy that Bennifer is doing a shot-for-shot remake of the Jenny from the Block Music video and I think you should climb on this crazy train with me.
Simone Biles, man. I hope she has everything she needs as long as she needs it.
Things For Your Ears and Eyes
Schmigadoon is delightful and a musical theatre fan’s dream. Keep putting Aaron Tveit in little hats on TV!!! I’ll gobble it up!!!
Since it is Olympics time (and I’m desperate for it to be cold out) let’s revisit the Virture/Moir ice dancing gold medal performance, which absolutely slaps. I got to watch this happen in real-time in Toronto and it was magical.
Things
I bought this knockoff solo loop band for my Apple Watch on Etsy and it’s phenomenal. Great quality, great price, holds up in the lake and during workouts. I might even by one in another color.
I’m obsessed with the Grateful app, which is like a digital gratitude journal with no superfluous bells and whistles. I’m historically terrible with practicing gratitude and this makes it easy and very wholesome to look back on.
Things to Make You Smile
People say the Olympics are peak American exceptionalism but I think Leslie Jones’ commentary blows all of that out of the water. The water for the thin and flat swimmers, that is.
I’m afraid I’ll never be as joyful as a drunken Seth Meyers climbing furniture and screaming “Green Light.”
I’ll be back on August 13. Friday the 13th! Spooky scary, huh?
