Hello and welcome to kelsey’s corner, the only newsletter on the internet written and lovingly curated by me, Kelsey. This week is all about glory days, snuggie work, and the love of justice.
Things For Your Ears
The last newsletter I sent out was on the anniversary of Glory Days opening/closing night and I did nothing. Nothing! What kind of a fan am I? Please accept my belated love song to my favorite weird little musical.
Not like the movies or TV shows
Not like the love songs everyone knows
Not like the rumours, not like the ghosts
Not like the pictures that they all postGood for you, you're doin' great out there without me
Baby, like a damn sociopathWell every time I close my eyes
I just see you written in big lightsI was going to share a bunch of videos from Miscast 2021 but they’re not available yet, so instead of Patrick Wilson’s weird beach cover of “Think of Me” we can all listen to his eternally gorgeous performance of “Breeze Off the River.”
Things For Your Eyes
I have two books to recommend to you! The first one is No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood, which is an oddly formatted story about what it means to be Very Online and suddenly Very Offline; I’ve been thinking about about it in quiet moments since I put it down. The second one is The Wreckage of My Presence by the lovely Casey Wilson which was a perfect Sunday afternoon book of essays with a final chapter that made me cry.
The infamous Countdown Snuggie video is a work of art. This article on how it came to life is also a work of art.
From the bottom of my heart I am rooting for John Mulaney.
Just a reminder to be kind to folks and respect their comfort level with masks, despite new rollouts and old rollouts and whatever the information du jour is.
Things For Your Ears and Eyes
I watched Singin’ In the Rain for the first time last week - good movie! I can see why y’all like it so much.
On Monday I lost two full hours to these videos where Chris (I feel like we’re friends/on a first-name basis) digs through YouTubers’ music video libraries and explains why they’re decent, why they’re bad, and why they could be better. He’s genuinely funny and the world of YouTuber music is fascinating, so it’s a win-win.
The Personal History Of David Copperfield is finally on HBO Max and it’s as earnest and lovely as they come. Dev Patel should be in every single movie.
Andrew Garfield just loves justice and wants to be thicc and I celebrate that.
Things
I bought a bike helmet! I’m a bike rider now! I picked up this cute little noggin protector from Thousand and now I can ride around Wrigley Field protected and respected. Well, I don’t know about respected. I do try to wave at every dog and baby, though.
Things to Make You Smile
I don’t know where to put this but a contestant on Chopped said he liked to spin around like Britney Spears because she spun with a “chaotic grace” and I am not one to keep that observation to myself.
Mandy Patinkin check!!!
I took this really nice picture of Bucky in the park last week. Keep looking forward, folks.
I’ll be back on June 4 where I’ll be celebrating another year on Earth. For real! My birthday is June 4. Will you get a full newsletter or an apology for not writing one? Only time will tell…
If you liked this newsletter, please share it with a friend or an enemy using the button below. If you double-liked this newsletter and want to fund my Slurpee habit you can do so here. Until then, please keep wearing your mask and be nice to people. I’ll be thinking of you.
