I Have Some News About Costa Rica
You're lucky this newsletter isn't just recommendations of Dateline episodes.
Hello and welcome to kelsey’s corner, the only newsletter on the internet written and lovingly curated by me, Kelsey. This week’s edition is all about WFH hairstyles, kid detectives, and simmering anger towards Ben Affleck.
Things For Your Ears
I loved this song in college, I loved this song when I heard it in an Instagram story last week, and I love it now so I’m here to share it with you.
Things For Your Eyes
This love letter to I Think You Should Leave and it’s meme-ification in the shadow of this overwhelming political climate really struck me as I tried to process the Capitol insurrection. It also reminded me I can yell, “Oh my god, he admit it!” whenever I feel sad.
Saachi Koul’s newsletter, A List of People I Am Mad At, is the perfect treat for a Friday afternoon. Unless you’re Ben Affleck.
Broadway has almost been closed for one full year, and even without taking into account the jobs lost and dreams deferred and missing “““cultural impact””” this look at Moulin Rouge - which had the cast and crew most heavily affected by Coronavirus - in the days before the shutdown and how they’re facing the future.
Refinery29’s Money Diaries are maybe my number one guilty pleasure - I mainline old ones with the intensity of someone binge-watching all the Star Wars movies. I found this Medium post on the “best” i.e., “messiest” ones of all time and it kept me busy for a whole afternoon.
Things For Your Ears and Eyes
I have finally watching Paddington, a very good movie about a very good bear, and I would have to agree it’s a very good movie about a very good bear.
The Kid Detective. We have to talk about The Kid Detective! Going in I knew it was a neo-noir-y sort of movie but I didn’t expect it to be as affecting as it was or such a nuanced a character study from Adam Brody. He’s so good in this movie; incredibly engrossing and delivers the wallop of an ending with such grace. Please spend $5 to rent this and have yourself a dreary little Sunday.

Claw clips are ugly. I don’t understand them as a fashion choice, but I do understand them as a work-from-home choice; I bought this one (which is especially for thick hair!) and have found it more comfortable than elastic bands and cleaner than scrunchies.

Now presenting your Tik Toks for the week…
If you don’t reply to this email with your favorite non-sequitur from this video I will remove you from the distribution list (I’m kidding, but please…there’s so many!)

And now for some business: if you buy something from any of the links in this newsletter I might make a little bit of money. Not like, a life-changing amount. I just don’t want the FTC to come after me.
